When Does the World Need You Most?

It is urgent! NOW! As a parent, coach or leader of anyone, the world needs more people to stand up and do things right. Only one of those people you can control: yourself. Here's how to show up in the world if you want to be a great leader on your team, in your family, in your company, or even your friend group.

5 Steps to Become an Effective (Awesome) Leader

  1. Offer Hope. Research proves 4 specific traits from the greatest world leaders. Why were the people willing to do anything to follow their lead? The first criteria that the research found: These great leaders offered hope. Think about what you convey in your daily thoughts, actions, tones, body language, and general life-lens. Are you going to the negative default when things are hard? Are you pointing out what you don’t like? Are you finding flaw but not offering solutions or ideas? Make the intentional shift away from all that and start by offering hope to those around you.
  2. Offer Trust. The second criteria of great leaders, as proven in the research, is that they build trust. They do what they say they will do. They honor their word. Simply, they do the right thing, even when no one is looking and even when it is hard. Are you doing the same in your life? At home, at school, on your team, at work?
  3. Offer Stability. Next in the research results: great leaders understand the value of comfort that comes from stability when external forces feel unstable. Great leaders offer perspective and strength that empowers others to feel their best.
  4. Offer Compassion. Compassion and grace are so very powerful in your leadership and parenting. It shows up big in the research. We are all fighting our own battles that can drive unproductive behaviors. Most of those battles are invisible to others. If you don't like what they are doing, be sure to start with where that might be stemming from and offer a hug before you offer critical feedback.
  5. Play to Your Strengths. There's an old cliche that says "there is no "I" in Team." In reality, there are many "I"'s in the greatest teams, and they are all playing to their individual strengths.  They understand weaknesses exist, but they don't spend a lot of time trying to be all things to everyone in all circumstances. Help your kids and athletes do the same, then align with others who are strong where you are weak to fill in the gaps with exceptional synergy for success, happiness, and confidence.

There you go with the basics- start now! We could teach about leadership empowerment for days on end, but this post gives you more than what you need to get a solid start on being a great parent, coach, or leader of a generation.
